Sometimes the simplest dishes are also the most surprising.

With just a few ingredients, King Oyster mushrooms can become a rich-tasting dish, with an almost “meaty” texture and a glossy, slightly sweet, and fragrant sauce.

Today, we start with an easy version:

 Pan-fried mushrooms with sesame oil

 Ingredients (2–3 servings)

Sauce:

  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tbsp sugar (or honey)
  • 1 tbsp water
  • Pepper
  • 1 tbsp mirin (optional but recommended)

 Preparation

1. Sear the mushrooms

Cut the mushrooms into thick pieces or tear them by hand.

Heat a pan without oil and cook them until they are lightly golden.

Set aside.

2. Prepare the sauce

In the same pan, add a little oil and sauté the garlic.

Then add the soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, water, pepper, and mirin.

Let the sauce reduce slightly.

Add the mushrooms and mix until they are well coated.

3. Finishing

Add the green onion and a few sesame seeds.

Turn off the heat and serve immediately.

Result

  • tender but slightly grilled texture

  • glossy and fragrant sauce

  • perfect with rice or noodles
